Unofficial Cardiacs archive

The Whole World Window

A fan-made Cardiacs archive bringing together concerts, records, photographs, memories and all the strange little details that surround the music, the people, the wonderfully peculiar world of Cardiacs and all the Pondies gathered around it (where it is always snowy in the pond and everybody kisses each other) all kept in one place under the heavenly supervision of the Leader of the Starry Skies. Unofficial, but very serious about it

This website is an independent fan project. It is not an official Cardiacs website and is not affiliated with the band, their families, management, publishers or record labels. Every effort is made to keep the information accurate, respectful and properly attributed. Mistakes may still creep in wearing a small hat. Corrections, missing details and useful contributions are always welcome.

Above all, The Whole World Window exists to bring the live history of Cardiacs together in one properly organised archive. The aim is to document every known gig as clearly as possible: dates, venues, cities, supporting acts, line-ups, setlists, recordings, tickets, flyers, photographs, memories and sources, all kept together and made easy to find. Uncertainty is not tidied away for the sake of appearances; the archive should always make clear what is confirmed, what has merely been reported and what remains missing.

I am Cedric, a Pondie who builds and maintains this site. I am not a professional archivist, historian or member of the Alphabet Business Concern; I simply enjoy collecting fragments, joining dots and helping to ensure that valuable information does not quietly disappear. Records, photographs, stories and other curious evidence have gathered around the gig archive along the way, and the whole thing will continue to grow as more information finds its way through the window.

Acknowledgements

Thanks, acknowledgements and other important noises

This site could not exist without the work, memory and generosity of a great many people. My deepest thanks go first to Cardiacs, to Tim Smith, and to every musician, artist, crew member and collaborator who helped create the extraordinary body of work that made this archive necessary in the first place.

Thank you to the people who have documented the band over the years: photographers, writers, interviewers, fanzine editors, tape traders, collectors, forum members, webmasters and fans who kept old information alive long before this website appeared.

Particular gratitude is owed to The Cardiacs Museum, the Cardiacs Wiki, the Cardiacs subreddit, Discogs, Setlist.fm, MusicBrainz, the Internet Archive and the official Cardiacs website.

The gig archive in particular owes a substantial debt to the Cardiacs Gig Archive, whose surviving documents, memorabilia and accumulated fan knowledge have helped keep a remarkable amount of history from falling through the floorboards.

Thanks to everyone who has shared corrections, memories, scans or encouragement, especially the members of the Cardiacs Facebook group, whose knowledge and generosity continue to help this archive grow.

Wherever material is reproduced or referenced, every effort is made to credit the original source or rights holder. If something here belongs to you and the credit is missing, incomplete or incorrect, please get in touch so it can be put right.

Send things through the window

Old flyers, ticket scans, photographs, setlists, corrections, memories and impossible-to-verify stories are all part of the fun.

This archive is still growing, and I need your help to gather as much reliable information as possible. Contributions are especially useful when accompanied by dates and sources.

The Whole World Window is not finished and, with any luck, never will be.
