This Stonehenge Free Festival performance is historically significant for preserving the earliest known recorded live appearances of seven songs.
The set captures Cardiacs at an important transitional point, combining established material with a substantial number of newer songs that would become central to the band's mid-1980s repertoire.
The circulating recording has been heavily affected by processing introduced somewhere in its lineage. A pronounced psychedelic-style reverb and substantial distortion make the sound unusually dense and chaotic, although the performance itself remains compelling and historically valuable.
